Social distancing during the Covid19 pandemic has been an extreme but necessary measure to contain the spread of the virus. It has isolated people from their loved ones, ironically in a time when emotional support is needed more than ever. Effectively, social distancing amounts a loss greater than our democratic freedom as humanity has lost the privilege to touch each other. Indeed, masks have become the omnipresent symbol of isolation as they hide a level of sensory information from human interaction. The smirk, the blush, and many other nuances that both enliven and clarify ordinary engagements now go unshared. Today we’re forced to bump elbows instead of embracing and, while lockdown’s ensue globally, governments are taking the liberty to act on their citizen’s behalf, raising the question in some cases of constitutional rights infringement. These artworks represent the emotions that make you human, and perhaps the fact that technology is uniting people instead of living up to its aloof reputation is an indication as to how life will change in the looming Fourth Industrial Revolution?
