3-Dimensional Mixed-Media
If ever there was a picture I took care to make it was this one. Firstly it was a bit of a technical nightmare because the multiple layers of artwork are built into a three-dimensional box that supports both the presentation and weight distribution. Then the layers varied. To contrast the digital canvas, I found a poly-whatever plastic about 0.5mm thick. It looks and behaves like glass which gave this picture the materiality to show off the theme of diversity in a stylish way. Lastly the wood had to be gloss-finished and assembled in no less than museum quality because it was going into a remodelled living space with clean lines.
All that said, I think this pic takes Islamic art where it aint been before.
I’m guessing that is why this artwork was chosen from the other designs presented. My client is a guy who spoke of spirituality quite liberally and the design does exactly that. The idea came from some vector stock I found and led, by sheer coincidence, to a book by Osho landing in my hands. When I opened it I found we were not the only people who found a connection through diversity. The enlightened ones have been talking about it for time immemorial.
